Even the most quiet and sparse locations in space can be full of activity. A lot of interesting space weather effects occur
in interplanetary space and on other planets. This poster
was specially designed to represent one of the IHY science team activities. Other posters are available for download here.
Over the past 50 years, we have learned that space is full of activity that
occurs on many spatial scales. The 4 spacecraft of the Cluster mission were launched in
2000 to study the dynamics of the Earth's magnetosphere and the solar wind. The spacecraft fly in formation, which allows
scientists to analyze data from all four locations to determine the
spatial and dynamic variability of magnetospheric phenomena.

A great way to learn about the space environment is to visualize it
for yourself.
Children from around the world have created many beautiful and interesting artistic depictions
of our heliophysical environment. If you need ideas or inspiration,
take a look at the
IHY Children's
Artwork Gallery.
